Dear Addicts by POP Buchanan
Hi, I am POP Buchanan. I am 8.5 years Sober from alcohol addiction. I am a recovering alcoholic that remembers the darkness and isolation of addiction. I remember the deep seated sadness and pain that fueled my addiction and depression.
I share my recovery journey via the Sober is Dope podcast and devoted my life to sharing my story. I also use the amazing art of Hip Hop to both document my recovery journey and
share messages of hope with the addiction and recovery communities. Due to my love for anyone dealing with an addiction, I was compelled to write a song entitled “Dear Addicts.”
Dear Addicts was created out of a deep love for the struggling addict that I used to be
I remembered that despair and I wanted to write a song that spoke to the alcohol or drug addict.
Then I started to think of all the addicted individuals worldwide.
I wanted the song Dear addicts, to also speak to those struggling with process and behavior addictions.
Process addictions include smoking, shopping, eating, and sugar addictions, just to name a few.
Produced by my long time friend Nudgi-Nudge,
Dear Addicts has a beautiful sound and contagious beat that mirrors the hope and optimism conveyed to the addict.
Addiction causes the individual to feel totally lost, forgotten, dejected, unredeemed, sick, shamed, and broken. I
I know this from personal experience and having documented numerous cases on my Podcast, Sober is Dope!
As an Hip Hop artist I have grown via my recovery from alcohol. I wanted to utilize my platform to share resources to both the addict and recovering addict.
The song Dear Addicts is a resource that shares love and compassion. Dear Addicts connects with the addict on a familiar level. Dear Addicts is inspired by the opioid, fentanyl, alcohol, meth, heroine, K2,
and the prescription pill crisis, and reminds the addict to not give up. The song is dedicated to Addicts everywhere and especially the addicts of Kensington PA crisis, and the homeless.
Compounded with self isolation and the Pandemic many people worldwide fell victim to depression and addiction.
In the midst of uncertainty and darkness I wanted to share a message of love, forgiveness, and second chances.
My goal is to share this song with 1 Million Addicts and have this song be a necessary tool for anyone on the recovery journey.
Addicts must know that they are loved, worthy, capable, and one decision away from freedom from addiction.
This is the song I needed to hear 9 years ago. I hope that Dear addicts touches the addict and encourages them to find freedom.
I believe in second chances from the abuse, pain, and torture that addiction causes.
My goal is to help the addict survive rock bottom, find the willingness to heal, and seek refuge through the recovery process.
It is all about healing. Dear Addicts is all about healing.
Thank you for supporting The Sober Rapper, Sober is Dope, and my latest release Dear Addicts. I will catch you on the other side. Don’t forget to share the song with someone you love. From Brooklyn with love, POP Buchanan.
